Sale dates list for J. P. Manatrey probable estate administrator with auctions on March 14 21 and 22. Items include horses cattle hogs sheep Poland Chinas hens grain hay implements and household goods with locations near Fairfield and Ed Parsons Floyd 6 miles east Fairfield.
Two of three men held on a burglary charge escaped from the county jail through a ventilator in the bathroom wall. The escapee, whose size was aided by the loosely fastened opening, left with the other suspect. the third man remained in custody. The local landlord Negro later recovered some of his clothing, and all three had denied guilt while awaiting trial.
Despite bad roads the Jefferson county Teachers' club met with strong turnout. Golda Hyde won the third grade spelling contest and Tillie Gohn took the sixth grade arithmetic title. Esther Calhoun won the fourth grade reading contest. Judges were Mrs. Leo Gibson Miss Belle Allender and Mrs. Mary Brown. Samuel Pepys possessed about 3000 books stored in original bookcases made for him in 1666 by Simpson the joiner. Pepys began his diary at age 27.
Neighbors gathered last Friday evening at the home of W B Copeney to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Carlson and daughter Florence who were leaving the community. A pink and white decor blend, a two course supper, and an angel food cake with Carlson and year markers highlighted the event. The neighbors presented gifts as the party ended after games and cheer.
Telegraphic news reports the death of Mrs A W McElhaney at her Los Angeles home on March 18. The body will be brought to Fairfield next week with Mrs Pearl McElhaney. A short funeral service will be held at the grave.
Muroc powdered milk produced by Rob ert Murphy at Waukon Iowa sold to the American Relief Administration for Austria relief. A $50 000 order fills the plant, with supply to last until April 1 as the factory runs on incoming milk from about a hundred patrons. The Waukon plant is the only in the state powdering whole milk and is a new enterprise with strong promoter satisfaction.
Sheriff West of Osceola Clarke county is clearing a highwayman gang tied to a stolen car near Murray last fall. Leader Eddie Adams was killed in Wichita after killing a detective. Frank Foster remains jailed in Creston. William Finterman is kept in Leon. one bandit at large. Governor Kendall and Clarke County board offer rewards. Also notes a water lily paper factory planned for Ocotlan Mexico using fibrous lilies as high grade paper material.
Reports describe a blizzard with a fiery flash and ash colored snow. Melted snow and water showed blue scum and strong sulfur odor, with ash like sediment and sulfur taste. Similar observations from half the county suggest meteoric dust contaminated snow and water.
Callenius and sons of Sioux City hauled 23 500 bushels of shelled corn and 5 000 bushels of oats to Hospers Farmers Elevator Co. from a 560 acre farm. The corn market represents surplus from 1921 and reserves for seed. J J Seerley of Burlington received 11 000 bushels rent from Mississippi river bottom farm, signaling a 22 000 bushel crop.
W B Barney Iowa dairy and food commissioner reports fourteen creameries added in 1921. He notes plans for twelve to fifteen localities and ties rising dairy farming to land value and soil fertility in northern Iowa.

W H Bender of Des Moines chaired the vocational education department at a large Chicago meeting. The National Teachers Association leader is noted as a national figure in vocational training for his four years directing the state program and its development.

Johnston offers ten egg settings from pure bred White Plymouth Rock chickens at one dollar per setting to Junior club aged boys and girls who record poultry and enter chickens in the Fairfield Poultry Show this fall.
