A promotional notice extols Electric Bitters as a well known remedy. It claims to cure liver and kidney diseases, clear skin conditions, remove impure blood, expel malaria, and prevent malarial fevers. It guarantees satisfaction or money back with bottles sold at Clarke & Junkin's drug store.
A reader reports the 15th anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs. K. Caviness in Cedar township with about fifty guests. A lavish dinner was served and numerous gifts were given, including a hanging lamp from multiple families and many fruit dishes and glassware.
Center Des Moines Township news records several moves including Kirkhart to James M. Fry place and Al to Mrs G C Fry’s as she relocates to Libertyville. Local visits note John Nelson visiting from Black Hawk township. Milliner Minnie Rasmus returns from Fairfield to home and Mrs Muller's sudden death at Eldon Feb 25 is reported. Arenwoods reports Will Allender returns from Benkelman after selling his claim. Our school closes Friday with Miss Ela Garmoe as teacher. Miss Ida Messer visits Muscatine. Mr James Kiner, after visiting relatives, heads to Washington Territory Tuesday. The Lynn school also closes Friday with Miss Etta Kissel as teacher. John Diers moves to his farm. he contemplates Alfred Green as a partner. John is described as a rustler preparing to settle.
On February 27 a dinner at the northwest city residence of Smith Bail honored Mrs Ball on her seventy fifth birthday. All children attended except George W from Iowa City. They received a hanging lamp from their children and china cups from Mrs C George and Mrs C B Fisher. A joyful gathering was anticipated to continue for many more years. Brighton: G R Bayne’s house at Pleasant Plain was robbed of $30 on February 25, with no clue to suspects.
