John Diers moves to his farm. he contemplates Alfred Green as a partner. John is described as a rustler preparing to settle.

Birthday Dinner Honoring Mrs Ball At Smith Bail Residence

On February 27 a dinner at the northwest city residence of Smith Bail honored Mrs Ball on her seventy fifth birthday. All children attended except George W from Iowa City. They received a hanging lamp from their children and china cups from Mrs C George and Mrs C B Fisher. A joyful gathering was anticipated to continue for many more years. Brighton: G R Bayne’s house at Pleasant Plain was robbed of $30 on February 25, with no clue to suspects.

Council met February 28 with Mayor Ultwkle and trustees Brown Davis Scott Scott Taylor Wilkins. Petitions by Geo Heaton and J Martin to keep swine were reviewed. Heaton’s right thought existing, no action. Martin granted with health officer support. February reports from treasurer and street commissioner. four bells for fire alarm system ordered and mounting plan approved. A four member committee Brown Davis Taylor Wilkins to locate each bell. three cedar posts mandated. Short fire hose to be purchased and adapted to Ottumwa hose. Election policemen named by ward. Mayor formed auditing committee Brown Taylor Waters. Adjourned for two weeks.
