Eagan Hanged Threats Mark Sioux Falls Murder Case

Thomas Eagan was sentenced in Sioux Falls to be hanged on June 13 for the murder of his wife. He added a defiant remark. In Quincy Illinois Dr. Hoffman editor of the Germania was shot May 20 by Gus and Casper Hella and Dr. Spear. Hoffman survived in a doubtful condition. The attack followed a Germania article said to be unprovocative. The three suspects were arrested and held for trial.

Arctic Explorers Arrive in New York After Jeannette Survivors

Lieutenant Danenhower and three fellow Jeannette survivors arrived aboard the Celtic off Fire Island. They were greeted by relatives and friends on deck and spoke of their ordeal in the Arctic while Danenhower defended Melville. Jack Cole, the boatswain, appeared demented from long suffering and was secured for travel. Danenhower planned a visit to Washington and Philadelphia before a Geographical Society reception. In Washington, May 29 to June 2, Congress debated dilatory motions and contested elections with multiple adjournments and refer-alongs to the Mackey Dibble and Bisbee Finley cases, ending with adjournment after routine votes.
