Hurley Fire Toll Soars as Alcazar Theater Burns

A disastrous blaze at the Alcazar theater in Hurley Wisconsin last night spread through the town’s business district. Eleven died in the theater and four more later reported, with seventeen total fatalities, while seventy buildings were torched and losses reach about 450000 to 500000 dollars. Miners and local residents gathered to watch as firefighters and volunteers battled the flames, with several actors trapped and two women leaping from windows in a bid to escape.

Pitched Battle Between Railroad Men and City Forces

In Youngstown Ohio on July 13 a clash erupted between about fifty Pittsburg and Western railroad workers, mostly Italians, and the city’s police, fire department, engineers, and street crews led by Marshal Williams. The disturbance centered on a construction train at Mill Street. police used water streams and clubs as officers and workers fought, arrests were made including Conductor Kelly, and authorities moved to clear obstructions at crossings.

Savage Standstill with Kickapoo at St Louis Hotel

In St Louis a Kickapoo trading party clashed with locals after a July 4 confrontation. John Rose shot a wounded attacker. Indians retreated to camp and armed others entered town. A melee ensued with revolvers and rifles, several wounded on both sides, crowds fled, police intervened, and three chiefs Gray Eagle Black Hawk and Messe Head were jailed. Rose surrendered to police.

Sensational Washington murder near Treasury building

Jacob Sharp is Sentenced After Court Hearing

Jacob Sharp received a four year prison term and a $5000 fine after a tense court session led by Judge Barrett. The defense sought mercy and a new trial, while District Attorney Martine urged sentencing and medical review of Sharp’s condition.
