The three story brick Central University of Iowa building at Pella, Marion County, built in 1855 with native Des Moines river timber, burned recently. It housed 130 students who enlisted for the Civil War. a marble slab listing those who died was destroyed. The campus has since grown under Dutch Reformed control.

Last September thousands paid tribute to Sioux City lads at military ceremonies while a body in the American Legion plot was buried as Corporal Redden. A second body arrived later and was identified as Sioux City’s Corporal Redden. the first was Private Louis E O Dell of Brooklyn. O Dell’s body was exhumed and sent to Brooklyn as authorities search for relatives. Redden’s parents mourned a grave in Graceland and learned the casket bore their son’s shell fire death on July 15 1918.
