Fourteenth Annual Meeting of Iowa State Horticultural Society
Des Moines hosted the fourteenth annual meeting from January 20 to 23 with about fifty members on day one and many more after. The event showcased about 200 apple plates, a Peter Lambert greenhouse collection, canned goods from Muscatine Can ning Co. and Kemple Co. of Oskaloosa. Officers were President C L Watrous and others. Committees discussed orchard management, varieties, and a descriptive catalogue of fruits. The society endorsed collaborations with the Fine Stock Breeders and Agriculture College, proposed a State Entomologist, and backed improved seedling distribution and summer exhibitions. Members urged caution against fraudulent tree peddlers and Russian varieties, and urged legislative support for forest and fruit tree planting. The meeting concluded with awards and notices for future events.
