The opening exercises for the new county courthouse drew a great crowd from across the county. Thomas Hoffman explained the 21 month build with delays from bad roads, detailed the 68 by 68 foot footprint, 170 foot tower, and 9 foot dial clock.
The 1892 dedication of the Jefferson County courthouse featured a flag salute by a veterans committee led by Major J. W. Kelly and a large assembly including ex Senator George G. Wright and others. The speaker praised the building as a secure, monumental record repository and urged civic pride in the county’s progressive achievement.
Hon D P Stubbs was introduced as the afternoon chairman and delivered an eloquent address.
