The Republican party shows its weak position by inviting a Boies supporter who campaigned for his election last fall to preside over the state convention.
The Fairfield Ledger condemns the selection of A. B. Cummins as temporary chairman of the upcoming state convention. It notes Cummins’ past support for Governor Boies and labels him a strong anti prohibitionist, arguing the move mocks independents and mugwumps.
The Iowa exchange disputes the appointment noting Judge James McDill is amiable but lacking sympathy for western demand for fair transportation rates and lacking courage to oppose powerful railroad interests. It labels him a railroad lobbyist and unfit for office in Iowa.
