The Jefferson County Farmers Institute Meeting Highlights

The Jefferson County Farmers Institute met December 19 in Library Hall with music by a colored quartet and prayers by Rev C L Snow. Dr Clarke spoke on Hog Cholera. Ada Parsons read Wives and Mothers on the Farm. discussions covered corn crop methods, rent policies, hogs feeding, dairying, poultry, and the Agricultural College. Officers were elected, and remarks praised former secretary Jacob Funck.

Farmers Club Debates Expansion and Farm Tenancy at County Court House

The Farmers Club held an aftermath meeting at the Jefferson County court house on Saturday December 30 1899. President Ireland chaired while Gage reported no income or expenditures for the year. Speakers debated expansion vs moral suasion and the future farm economy amid rising land prices and renter pressures.
