June Bluffs School Board clashes with the health department over compulsory pupil vaccination amid vaccination fears and parent protests. The board refuses to enforce a vaccine order, citing health authorities and police standards, while parents threaten to withdraw children from school.
Charles Grant and family, Omaha Indians aged 3 to accompany by William Cayon, arrived in Onawa while en route home from Omaha. They were intoxicated, brought six quarts of whisky, and disturbed town peace. Mayor Harlow fined each five dollars plus costs. unable to pay, they left notes secured by chattel mortgage, and departed toward the reservation through heavy snow.
D E Walton chief of the railway mail service in Burlington Iowa after a drinking spree attempted to end his life in a Western hotel today. He was found half conscious with wrists cut and bled but a physician saved him. Superintendent West of the Sixth District Railway Mail Service in Chicago arrived to review the affair.

Council Bluffs real estate records reveal a large, valuable lot in the original city plat with no owner. Once occupied by Mormon settlers in the 1850s, it was abandoned and never claimed though taxed for years. J J Reis committed suicide at Alta Vista Iowa on Feb 18 by shooting himself through the heart with a .38 revolver. He had left town around 4 PM and was found dead in a bed by a neighbor entering the house. His parents live in Newton Hamilton.
Nashua Iowa February report notes Nellie Arnott a Nashua native now engaged in home mission work will sail from Boston in April to West Africa to begin kindergarten teaching in mission schools prepared for this field. The 30 year old woman is described as bright and devoted to her life’s work.
Henry Moses slipped while carrying chairs from the basement at the Congregational church in Manson Iowa and fell breaking his shoulder blade and bruising himself. He is thought to be internally injured.

Hampton Louisiana February 18 Ed Miller of O E Miller Son of New Providence Iowa was acquitted on fraudulent banking charges. The case moved from Hardin county amid claims of an unfair trial. Most deposits after March 21 1904 were returned and insolvency stemmed from large overdrafts and a $17000 overdrawn stock buyer account.
A two story brick building at Centerville's south square was burned this morning and completely destroyed along with its contents. Firefighters contained the blaze, but the structure, the first brick in the business district, owned by C. F. Howell, carrying $1 200 insurance, was wiped out.

Wapello County Attorney W W Epps announced plans to lobby the next general assembly for a statute punishing husbands who desert their wives and children. The case of Joe Shevelka, who abandoned his family in freezing cold with little food or money, prompted the move as authorities could not charge him under existing Iowa law.
Henry Wagers and M S Kelsie two veterans plan mandamus action in district court to challenge the old soldiers preference act of the Thirtieth General Assembly. They allege the Wapello county board erred by appointing C A Hyatt overseer of the poor and seek removal and replacement by one of the petitioners. The board deferred on the request at its last meeting.
Ottumwa Iowa job offices of International Harvester will be permanently closed March 1. Local general agent A. H. Leimbrook could not be reached to confirm but the report comes from reliable authority.
The Ottumwa office joins the Harvester combine with a new Aurora branch to oversee the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids offices. The Ottumwa territory covers fourteen southern county areas with business volume in the thousands of dollars. Prior to 1903 four big harvester firms ran Ottumwa offices including McCormick Plano Deering and Champion.
The Des Moines Sioux City express split a journal four miles west of Farnhamville at 8 am. The engine and tender were damaged but no injuries occurred. The train halted three rails from a bridge over Cedar Creek, delaying traffic about four hours.
H R Brown of Benson Iowa asks Illinois Central for 125 dollars as a rebate after the railroad moved its Benson station two miles north when the main line was straightened. He claims to have paid the amount to aid erection of the original station nine years ago and seeks compensation from the railroad commissioners.
A 14 month old child was hurled twenty feet from a high chair by a soft coal range blast and landed in a baby carriage in an adjoining room. The kitchen was wrecked and the child screamed unharmed though covered in soot as the mother fainted upon learning the escape.
Richard D. Hyde of Warren county Iowa is declared sane yet abandoned by Minnesota authorities. He wanders the streets after deportation efforts faltered and a transportation refusal left him unassisted in St. Paul. Authorities note bureaucratic delays endangering a defenseless man.
In Cincinnati Iowa on February 17 Postmaster I M Barnes sixty years old wrestled a rabid dog by the jaws until two men killed the creature with a hatchet. Barnes was unbitten but his hands were badly cut and doctors feared infection.
A. Armstrong faces bankruptcy petitions in Council Bluffs with creditors claiming about $300,000 in loans. William Arts of the Bank of Carroll and Thomas P. McPherson of South Omaha are key claimants. Armstrong’s rapid debt accumulation followed years of trusted borrowing from local and distant lenders without security.
A poor Black woman Mary E Yancey of 1219 Grove St received a $25 money order from James H Hyde of New York. Hyde, known for a recent hundred thousand dollar ball, says he sent it after hearing of a dinner for rich New York folks. The sender and purpose remain unclear to the clerk.
In Brighton Iowa February scene three youths Gilbert Richardson Aggie Wilkinson and Gilbert George stole a case of beer. Sheriff took them to Washington. Richardson and Wilkinson received twenty days in the county jail while George will attend public school for sixty days and be home by eight each evening.
Keokuk Iowa February 17 John Menz treasurer of Lee county faces loss of 9943.89 deposited in the recently closed Commercial Bank of Edmund Jaeger and Co The board of supervisors says he and his bondsmen must cover the amount with bank assets expected to cover only ten to fifteen percent of liabilities
Des Moines college invites five other schools to a spring cross country run. Drake Simpson Penn Ames and Grinnell have accepted. The seven mile course will be set the day before the race.
