A Missouri writer recalls a southeastern Iowa trip and returns to the old family homestead near Glasgow. She describes the new front house, the old well, a pear tree, the barn, and the graveyard. Memory mingles with time as she notes changes and cherishes heirlooms and church rituals.
A pamphlet explains a simple home remedy claimed to permanently cure catarrhal diseases and hay fever with two weekly applications. The notice offers the pamphlet for ten cents from A Dixon & Son, 304 West One Street, Toronto, Canada, citing Scientific American.

A mass meeting at Ioka Station aimed to unite denominations and form a union church. A committee began gathering support, with plans to ring the church bell soon. Farmers report sowed wheat and favorable weather. T M Linder disputes a hog story and notes ten ten month pigs weigh 3760 pounds. A report of weddings will come next week.
The notice extols Electric Bitters as a great alterative and tonic that restores health after sickness. It claims cures for kidney liver and stomach troubles and urges purchase at Clarke and Junkin's drug store, priced 50 cents or 1 dollar per bottle.
At a Thursday evening meeting Mayor Hinkle and trustees approved an ordinance to place a 200 pound fire bell in each ward costing up to 150 dollars for four. The scavenger license was also approved. A white oak lumber contract for 14 000 feet was awarded to W G Stephenson at 18 20 per 1000 feet with a 100 dollar load. City election appointments were made for wards one through three with specified polling places, judges and clerks.

Birth notices list many families in Des Moines Liberty Fairfield and Buchanan townships with dates in January and February 1889 and several first and second children. Marriages include Kley Gow and Rhuggles and multiple vows in February 1889 with officiants. Dated entries appear alongside transfers of town and farm property.

The Iowa Supreme Court reversed the Koug land Bros. of Urieritan, setting aside Judge Lewis's judgment and fining them 1000 dollars for violating the prohibitory law. The ruling pleases Brighton residents and the Koug land boys who say the fine was excessive.
J A Crawford says after two years of severe eczema no relief from leading doctors he found relief with Papillon extract of flax. He reports rapid improvement and credits Papillon with restoring his health. Clarke and Junkin's drug store offers large bottles for one dollar.
