Walter Bowman of Fort Madison was fatally shot while rabbit hunting on Henry Bellman’s farm west of the city. Bowman's gun discharged in a brush pile, striking him in the abdomen. he died about an hour later at his home.

Nine year old Lena Sigard was killed on her father's ranch while protecting her pet chickens from a herd of wild horses. She ran into the yard with an apron waving to scatter the animals, but was kicked in the head by a stallion leading the herd.
A Plymouth Rock rooster belonging to a neighbor jumped a six foot fence into Mrs. Henry Cramer's yard in Yoe and fought off her attack with a club. The bird defended its right to scratch the flower beds and left the woman with scratches. Kohler cigar factory workers witnessed the fight and helped, but the rooster then turned on them and continued the battle.

John Martin a 55 year old railroad extra gang worker visited Geo Crane hardware seeking a revolver then cut his throat with a razor at 1 30 pm. He was found upstairs in a room bleeding with windpipe nearly severed but not the jugular vein. Dr A O Pitcher said he had a chance to live. He has lived with his sister Mrs Dan Lawler on North Jackson Street for years. The act followed no known fits of despondency.

In Newark New Jersey Frances Ritchie 56 and Isabel Ritchie were found dead in their home. Frances lay on the floor while Isabel hung herself with a clothes line.
