The hall of the high school was crowded with distinguished scientists from across the United States. Prof. H. A. Newton of New Haven presided and welcomed attendees before handing the chair to Prof. E. S. Morse of Salem Massachusetts, who gave a brief address. Sections organized after the general sessions and Morse was to deliver the presidential address that evening as the meeting continues through Tuesday.
