A morning fire destroyed the McDermott barn killing two horses and injuring the owner who burned saving them. Fires at Strahl's hardware and other incidents across nearby towns caused about $5,000 in losses with three insured. Fire destroys Montezuma Hotel in Las Vegas New Mexico
A blaze from the kitchen basement at 10 30 on Sunday night nearly leveled the Montezuma hotel at the Las Vegas hot springs. Eight Eastern guests perished in the flames. The Atchison Topeka Santa Fe Company owned the hotel opened in April last year. The fire is incendiary in origin and broke out in the fourth story attic near the main tower. Seventy five guests occupied the building and it is unclear if all escaped. The loss approaches a quarter of a million. Special trains carried up both Las Vegas fire companies.
