The Birmingham Enterprise reports the old mill chimney owned by Sam Arbaugh, built in 1851 by Abel Bott and John Gwinn, 85 feet tall with 85,000 bricks, is being torn down. The mill, rebuilt after a 1854 fire by Lloyd Moss, later added a woolen mill and produced cloth and yarn for years.
Anna Louise Osborn Kirby died at her Fairfield home on Monday April 19 at 5 pm in her 83rd year. Born in Oneida County New York she lived in Warren County Illinois and Iowa before settling in Fairfield in 1879. Survived by four children and multiple grandchildren, she was longtime Baptist then Presbyterian and known for selfless family service. Funeral held at 200 West Briggs Street with interment Evergreen Cemetery.
