Water main break on Black Rock Turnpike causes evacuations
A 48 inch, 95 year old water main ruptured early Sunday on Black Rock Turnpike, sending a six to eight foot geyser and debris across the area. The Fire Department evacuated residents and shut a portion of the road for over a day while repairs continued. by Tuesday one lane remained open. Over 250 residents faced water outages and others had dirty water as crews investigated the cause, with officials citing a pressure surge as the likely reason.
