Fairfield residents brace for Y2K style disruptions as power heat and water fail. Phyllis Wier stocks tuna and water for weeks and plans to ride out a month with supplies. She adds cereal and other basics to her stash during shopping trips.
School officials weigh a ninth grade campus to handle rising enrollments and consider building a new elementary school, upgrading the high school to include grades 10 through 12, and other multi million dollar capital projects. Options include converting the Oldfield building to an elementary campus or adding space to Holland Hill Jennings Mill Hill McKinley Riverfield and others while Dwight Sherman Stratfield cannot take additions.
Conservation Commission will hear proposals to convert Hayden's Hill Open Space into a 9 hole course and Barbieri property into a driving range. Golf Course Committee will argue for expansion citing rising use of the 18 hole Smith Richardson course while neighbors raise environmental and encroachment concerns. Meeting set for 8 p.m. July 8 at Tomlinson Middle School Auditorium.
