WAVES unit 82 women veterans recall WWII service
Navy WAVE Jan Porter recalls sleepless nights after a midnight call during World War II. Local WAVES members from Fairfield and Bridgeport, totaling 19, share memories, honors, and veteran support since the unit began in 1989, highlighting training posts and wartime duties. They meet monthly at Fairfield’s Greenfield Hill Grange and support veteran causes.
