Numerous brief items record visitors and residents around Batavia including Iva Parker moving to Des Moines for work, Esther Patterson visiting from Kansas City, and many family visits and weekend trips. World War I era film "America's Answer" promoted at the Orpheum for three days starting tomorrow with matinee and evening showings.
The U S war film Pershing's Crusaders will have a three day stand at the Orpheum starting tomorrow. The scenes show American cannons and troops in action, artillery pulled by horses, and a French orphanage scene as troops head to battle. The footage is described as stirring and likely to draw large audiences at each performance.
Notice to heirs at law of J F Stanford and interested persons that the final report of Clara C Stanford, executrix, is filed in the District Court Clerk's office in Jefferson County Iowa. The report seeks settlement of the estate and directs response by interested parties. The notice specifies that all interested parties may appear to contest or accept the final settlement as filed.
The Jefferson County Live Stock and Farm Products association postponed the show to October 15 16 and 17 entries should be sent to the secretary by October 12. Entry blanks will be sent to all requesting them. Judges will be specialists for each breed ensuring proper coverage of agriculture and livestock interests.
Gov. W. L. Harding proclaims Sept 16 through Sept 28 1918 as Seed Corn Weeks urging farmers to participate in saving seed corn. The period calls for loyal support and generous effort in this patriotic agriculture drive for humanity.
The executrix Clara C. Stanford and Ralph H. Munro ask the court to approve the final report in the estate of J. F. Stanford, deceased, discharge the executrix and release the bondsman. Objections must be filed by noon September 26, 1918, at the Court House in Fairfield Jefferson County Iowa. Attorney for Executrix.
A reunion of the Peebler and Garber families gathered at the Old Brethren Church in Des Moines township on September 14 with 115 attendees. They traveled from across the state, shared meals in the basement at noon, and held a program before departing about 5 PM. Michael F. Peebler and John Garber were early settlers of the area in 1888. Officers elected for the next year included Sam Eshelman as President, TI. A. Peebler as Vice President, and J. W. Peebler as Secretary.
