Shan Gilbert born September 14, 1840 in County Antrim Ireland died September 5, 1905 aged 75. She married John Mahon in 1914 and lived in Jefferson County ever since. Eight of nine children survived, led by Jeannie who preceded her seven years earlier. Funeral held with Rev Alexander Corkey officiating. District court term opens in the city on Monday September 25 with September 14 as filing deadline. no major cases filed yet.

A runaway delivery wagon struck Burlington Passenger No. 13 at Mt. Pleasant as the train passed the crossing. The horses were torn to pieces, but no person on the train was harmed. Passengers and trainmen checked the wreck and noted the train sped at a fast rate with the crossing cleared.
