British infantry and tanks broke two Hindenburg lines near Cambria France as they push beyond villages woods and fortified positions. Fontaine city fell two miles from Cambria and British guns shell the town amid claims of German losses of about 50 000 men and many guns in the past two days.
British forces under Sir Julian Byng push across 32 miles from St Quentin to the Scarpe, capture Havrincourt Filesquieres Marcoing Masnieres and several guns. Tanks lead a surprise dawn assault overcoming barbed wire and trenches as German resistance collapses. General Haig guests Pershing at headquarters. 8,000 prisoners taken.
Los Angeles voters approved an initiative yesterday to ban saloons, creating the nation’s largest saloonless city. With 70 percent of precincts reported, the margin stood near 20 000, effective April 1, 1918.
Springfield Illinois reports a Langeman county circuit court jury returned a verdict in favor of Senator Sherman in a $10 000 damage suit filed by Louis and Mary Chaffee claiming services during their employment as Senator Sherman's housekeepers.

Berlin reports the Italian front unchanged with Italians holding the Piave line and advancing toward the Trentino. Rome notes no renewed attacks on Monte Toma Monte Monteroa and Monte Pertica as heavy combat rages near Monte Grappa and Monte Gappa.
Three officers and eighteen enlisted men died when the U S destroyer Chauncey was sunk after a night collision in the war zone. Vice Admiral Sims reported the accident and said Commander Walter F B Reno died at his post on the bridge. Seventy crew members were saved.
At the American Federation of Labor annual meeting in Buffalo a heated session followed a favorable report urging conscription of allied nationals. Canadian delegate Tom Black called conscription laws dastardly, prompting a demand for retraction as Gompers and Cary of Toronto disputed his stance. The committee report passed 244 to 20, and the issue was dropped after the vote.
London dispatch from Copenhagen reports the Danish steamship Adolph Andersen of 981 tons gross was sunk by a German submarine. One man is said to have been killed.
Munich Bavaria bans all concerts lectures and public meetings from December 1 to mid February due to worsening fuel shortage. Authorities cite growing energy scarcity impacting cultural and civic events in the city.

Paris Nov 22 The Matin reports Austrians will spare Venice after Vatican appeal but insist authority remain with the patriarch. The paper notes Venice will not be defended if Italian forces retreat further.
Washington report says 687000 young men drafted under the selective service law will be in training by January 1. Provost Marshall General Crowder states training camps are largely complete and clothing manufacture is progressing rapidly to supply uniforms for all selected men when the first draft ends.
General Pershing reports on November 6 fighting on the Flanders front results in the death of First Lieutenant Orlando Gochnaur, next of kin Mrs. F. A. Gochnaur Freeport, Illinois. First Lieutenant Alexander J. Gillis was slightly wounded, next of kin Mrs. Anna A. Gillis 16 Park Place Carbondale, Pennsylvania.
In a dynamite explosion at Medford's stone quarry two city workers Mark Stamper aged fifty eight and James Miller aged sixty six were instantly killed. Foreman John H. McMillan was probably fatally injured. Police could not determine the cause of the accident.
