Big fight on over private bank bill in Illinois
Springfield, May 26. Consideration of the senate private bank bill on second reading in the house was set as a special order for next Tuesday after opponents blocked immediate action. Downstate members hostile to any bill objected to advancing without more time for amendments. The battle to advance Tuesday and final passage in a few days promises to be the hardest of the session. The downstate lobby seeks to kill the bill as Governor Lowden and allies push to line up wavering members. Administration forces believe the bill can pass if votes hold, though margins may be tight.
