John G W Teeter 26, son of Mr and Mrs I R Teeter, was found dead in a hay mow near Batavia from a 22 caliber rifle wound. An inquest ruled death by own action while Melancholia from epilepsy contributed. testimony noted repeated suicide intent. Funeral plans undecided.

After 28 years the 170 foot Fairfield tower with a 10 to 15 foot weather vane was dismantled with a steeple jack, a sailor and a parachute jumper. The top sections posed footing hazards and a staged fall was avoided by City Clerk Long. The structure had become a local landmark since its 19th century erection.
