Prohibition Convention Names Jefferson County Delegates
A Jefferson county prohibition convention met at the courthouse to nominate fifteen delegates and fifteen alternates to the state convention in Des Moines May 22 and 23. W.B. Davis was chosen chair, W.M. Glotfelty secretary, and P. H. Heston elected county chairman after Castile resigned. Rev. F. C. Behner urged active effort to drive the saloon from the land as delegates were selected and adjournment followed.

Ottumwa May 20. The Republican county convention ended in a row with uncontested delegates WW for Cummins and US for Perkins, giving Cummins a 12 vote majority. Contesting delegates from two precincts totaled 13, Standpatters controlled temporary officers, Perkins chair ruled out Cummins delegation and allowed 13 Perkins delegates to vote. Cummins delegates formed their own permanent chair and a 26 member state delegation for Cummins and adjourned. Standpatters then selected a Perkins delegation.
