Sunday Denounces Theater Dance and Cards as Social Plague

The Rev Sunday delivers a two hour sermon condemning theater, card games, and dancing as moral hazards. He cites clergy, gamblers, and social elites, arguing these amusements corrupt families and society, and accuses dancing of being born in Paris brothels and threatening Christian virtue.

Local Briefs Highlight City Visitors and Illnesses

J C Yeager of Packwood was in the city as a guest of friends yesterday. Mrs Sam Boughner is reported ill at her West Washington home. Mrs Frank Wells returned from a visit with relatives in Washington. Mrs J W Pace of Mt Pleasant visited her daughter Mrs Thomas Osborn. Nellie Easton returned from Sigourney. East End Fans beat the Dough team 12 to 3 at the college grounds. Harry Thorpe returned from Davenport after serving on a Federal jury. Mr and Mrs Curtin Vaught of Libertyville visited relatives. Mrs J D Connover and daughter of Mr Pleasant visited Prof Jesse Walters. Rev Hawkins of Libertyville attended sermon on amusements last night. B C Meier Otto of Clinton Mo arrived for a two week visit with uncle J S Kelly.

Parsons Defeated by Monmouth on Alumni Field

Parsons played a near flawless game but fell to Monmouth 6 to 2 on Alumni field Friday. Gobble pitched effectively for Parsons while Hamilton led Monmouth with three hits and a homer. Neibert started for Parsons and Nelbert contributed offensively with three Parsons hits.
