Lawmakers kill legalized boxing measure in Iowa House

Des Moines Iowa March 21 The Lake bill to legalize professional boxing in Iowa failed 59 to 1 in the Iowa House defeating the measure for this session Ministers opposed its passage fearing relaxation of law though some army chaplains supported it Opponents said soldiers return would revive the fight. The House also defeated Senate amendments on Attorney General Havner state agent department funding and discussed school consolidation reform. A Mussels bill passed the House licensing mussel catchers and opening or closing streams, with a prior Senate approval. Cities may establish community centers in city owned buildings without voter referenda.
