Bill would double mileage of county board supervisors

Des Moines reports a bill by Joseph F. Wall to raise county supervisor mileage from five to ten cents per mile. The proposal argues current five cent rate fails to cover expenses, noting most supervisors own cars and use them for meetings and road inspections. Doubling the rate would raise about 1 1/2 dollars per supervisor annually, enabling more car use and reducing days spent on county business. County board sizes vary by county, with towns having three, five, or seven supervisors.
