Relatives of Libertyville native Sergeant Clair Shipler, listed as missing in action, received a war department letter via Captain James Farley detailing the last engagement. Shipler, a non commissioned gas officer, served to liaise with other companies and inspect gas masks. he was last seen near a log cabin as his company advanced, with suspected sniper fire or capture in the German-occupied woods.
