Farmer Charles H. Johnson Died In Ditch Collapse
A Fairfield area farmer, Charles H. Johnson, about sixty, was killed when a ditch he and son Elmer were digging collapsed. Neighbors and family tried to rescue him for nearly an hour as earth filled the trench twelve feet deep. Johnson, a Swedish immigrant, left a wife and five children including Elmer and Arthur. funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Dr. Thomas Osborn delivering the sermon.

Company M Receives Orders for Annual Camp and State Rifle Shoot
Captain J F Ready of Company M reports a general order from Adjutant General Logan detailing the Fifty Fourth regimental encampment at Ottumwa from August 28 for ten days. The annual July 10 Des Moines shoot and July 17 20 state rifle meet at Camp Dodge will select the state team for the national event.

J. H. Sharon Dies in Hinsdale Montana
Fairfield resident J. H. Sharon died Sunday morning at his daughter Mrs. Arthur White’s home in Hinsdale Montana. He and his wife had lived on South Main street and split time in Hinsdale. Funeral services were held at the Robert Louden home in Fairfield Wednesday.

Obituary of Della Frazer Endersby of Fairfield
Della Frazer Endersby was born July 28 1865 in North Carolina and died June 15 1911 in Ottumwa after an operation. She married George A Endersby in Salem Iowa December 25 1890 and leaves a husband four sisters and long grieving relatives. Rev C J Bowles conducted the funeral from Stockport with burial in Glasgow cemetery.

Telegram reports the death of Hazel Dahlman eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs George Dahlman in Chicago on Thursday. The Dahlmans, formerly of Fairfield, raised their children there and the obituary offers no further details of the death.

Harnessing the Water of Skunk Big Project Near Mt Pleasant
City leaders toured Oakland Mills four miles southwest of Mt Pleasant to view the Iowa Power company’s first hydroelectric plant. The Oakland station uses three 199 horsepower turbines and a 300 kilowatt generator, with plans to expand along Skunk River to Webster Lowell Augusta and toward Wapello. Engineer Highland outlined a large circuit to Fairfield Rome Washington Columbus Junction Muscatine Burlington Augusta Ft Madison, with Lowell to be completed next.

Washington Journal Reports Concrete Foundation Nearing Completion
The concrete foundation for the new county hospital was completed around 11:80 this morning and will set by next Monday. L. R. Davis, the contractor, plans to begin erecting the brick and stone superstructure immediately atop a five foot deep foundation. A ten inch stone course and several feet of dark red Kansas blocks will rise above the foundation to the first floor windows, with vitrified brick used thereafter.

Mrs Theo Rasche of Burlington Died in Fairfield
Mrs. Theo Rasche of Burlington died at Fairfield Tuesday morning at her sister Mrs Marshall Chilcott’s home. Her remains were taken to Burlington for services. Mrs Mattie Horton Rasche was nearly 42 and had recently undergone cancer surgery. She came to Fairfield three weeks ago to escape Burlington heat. A husband and five children survive along with friends and relatives. She was reared near Salina and known in Jefferson County.

Assault charged after store altercation in Lockridge
Ernest Rauscher of Lockridge pleaded guilty in Squire Wilson's court to assault and battery after being brought to Fairfield Monday afternoon. He paid a $10 fine plus costs for the incident arising from a quarrel in John Graff's store, where he struck Will Rauscher in the face.
