American marines attacked at dawn and advanced over two miles on a four kilometer front in the Chateau Thierry sector capturing more than 100 prisoners. French forces on the left took 160 prisoners as Allied troops press the German line and hold vital high ground.
Reports from France and London describe E S Johnson and other American units destroying dozens of enemy aircraft and capturing prisoners. Paris and Cha teau Thierry fronts recount heavy fighting with U S forces holding bridges over the Marne and driving Germans back along the Oise and Aisne.
Paris reports another bombardment by German long range artillery. The attack targets the city and adds to ongoing air and ground pressures on the capital.
On June 7 American Marines pierced German defenses near Maine and seized machine gun positions, taking Torcy and pushing into Bourreches northwest of Chauteau Thiery. They held positions amid counterattacks, and Belleau Wood was captured.
