Repent Says Gompers Forces German Delegates to Labor Meet
Amsterdam July 31 The international trades union congress faced a long committee discussion over the German declaration of the stand of German workers during the war. Samuel Gompers of the AFL urged frank open confession to maintain international labor relations. The German delegates relaxed after his admonition and the committee reported acceptance of Sassenbachs declaration urging frankness and unity. The congress adopted the report noting German workers condemned Belgium atrocities but argued Germany fought a defensive war and that certain actions were forced on them by circumstances.
