Rule bars Burlington doctor from joining Red Cross unit
Burlington physician Dr. A. C. Moerke, long established in the city, cannot accompany the Southeast Iowa Red Cross Surgeons’ unit to France due to a policy barring native Germans from allied hospital work. Though born in Germany, he immigrated as a child and has practiced in Burlington for over twenty years. His son serves in the regular army in Texas.
