17 Profiteers Jailed In New England Fish Ring
In Boston July 10, 17 men tied to the New England fish industry financing and management were sentenced for conspiring to inflate fish prices and form a monopoly. F. Monroe Dyer of New York president Ernest A. James treasurer John Burns manager Joshua Paine and Joseph A. Rich directors of Bay State Fishing Company of Maine drew one year terms and $1,000 fines. Twelve others from related firms received six months and $500 fines. Sentences stayed pending Supreme Court ruling on trial exceptions.
