Senate reaffirms stance on prohibition in Canada
Ottawa July 4 The senate reaffirmed its position on prohibition. The government measure to extend national prohibition for a year after the war was stripped of the clause, effectively killing the bill with peace. Sir James boughted, the government leader, proposed an amendment to restore the clause but it failed. The act did not itself enact prohibition but allowed liquor import into dry provinces from wet ones, leaving prohibition to the provinces. It may permit other provinces to import wine and beer from Quebec where sale is legal.
