Clif ford Thorne representing the Iowa League of Municipalities told the senate interstate commerce committee that tentative coal prices arranged last week between operators and the council of national defense, if permanent, would cost consumers 700 million dollars more than last year's soft coal bill. He urged government agency price fixing and proposed giving the federal trade commission power to set permanent coal prices based on production costs and a fair profit.
