Rev W Luther Bright Resigns After Long Fairfield Pastorate

Rev W Luther Bright, pastor of the First English Lutheran Church of Fairfield, resigns effective immediately after five years in charge. Since 1904 he built church debt freedom, added 174 members, presided at 80 weddings and 32 funerals, baptizing 30 children. The Brights plan to stay a few weeks as they consider offers from other ministries.

Plague Immunization Through Germ Vaccination Discussed

Dr Kepford reports a new tuberculosis immunization approach using inoculated germs to stimulate immunity in children. He says it may allow the next generation to be vaccinated like smallpox and claims the method is practically harmless and promising, with Iowa potential introduction if successful.

Fairfield to get federal building under Kennedy bill

Congressman Kennedy introduces House Bill 17415 to authorize a federal building at Fairfield Iowa for the post office. The act would authorize Treasury to acquire a site and erect a fireproof post office building with vaults and utilities at a total cost not to exceed seventy five thousand dollars. The measure has been referred to the Public Buildings and Grounds Committee and awaits action.

Davenport Attorney Gannon Arrested for Embezzlement

A. V. Gannon of Davenport, longtime Quinn estate attorney, is charged with larceny by embezzlement in Davenport. A warrant issued by Magistrate Roddewig alleges he diverted 2500 from the late James Quinn estate. Preliminary hearing set for January 20 at 2 p.m. with A. W. Chamberlin to defend.

Packwood Banker Sued Over 200 Acre Land Deal

A filing in the district court for the January term charges P. J. Pringle of Kimberley Idaho with seeking specific performance of a land sale contract. The suit targets Andrew and Mary Ryman over more than 200 acres in Jefferson and Keokuk counties near Packwood. Ryman, a Packwood leader and longtime Farmers Savings Bank president, allegedly refused to close a September 1909 buy sale at about 6718 dollars.

Habeas petition seeks return of Eldora boy

Clarence Collins and his father file a writ of habeas corpus in district court arguing the Eldora Industrial School for boys deprived him of liberty without due process. The petition notes the boy was neither convicted nor parent consent obtained for commitment after a September arrest for harness theft on Old Settlers Day.

Dedicate Law Building Soon at Iowa State University

Iowa City January 13 elaborate preparations are under way for the dedication of the new law building costing over 150000 dollars. February 22 is set for the ceremony with a university holiday. Dean G W Kirchway of Columbia Law School will be principal speaker. An alumni banquet and class reunions are planned.

Miss Smiley Resigns From Parsons College Post

Miss Cora Smiley professor of English language and literature and dean of women at Parsons College resigns after ten years of service. The resignation, tendered due to prolonged illness of her mother, was accepted by President Parsons and the board amid surprise and esteem.
