President Wilson arrives in Rome amid royal welcomes and a massed crowd. He speaks in the Italian Chamber urging a league of nations, rejecting balance of power and stressing purity of motive and friendship to sustain peace.
A reprint in exhortative tone argues that demobilization alone fails to balance power and that a thoroughly united federation of nations will replace the old balance. It declares a new age begins, calling for a practical, united statesmanship to lift mankind to higher endeavors and achievements.
Demonstrations against the state public utilities commission approved street car fare led to a near total halt of Denver Tramway lines. A crowd collected at Fifteenth and Larimer, pulled trolleys from wires, cut trolley ropes, and halted traffic while building a street bonfire without destroying company property.
Conferees on the war revenue bill agreed to start their conferences Monday on the measure as amended by the senate. It levies about 6 billion dollars in taxes for 1919 and provides for roughly 4 billion in 1902. He reached the border five nights after capture beating the others by two days.
