Early Friday a Birmingham Iowa hardware firm member Charles Elliott suffered severe burns when he poured kerosene with gasoline onto a fire causing a violent explosion. He was badly burned but physicians hope for his recovery.
Mrs Orrin Kellogg hosted Finch Club guests Friday from two to five at Mrs Kate McClain’s North Court street home. Members played finch and chatted while some sewed. Tables laid for nine. an elegant menu was served as the afternoon concluded with all reporting enjoyment.
Isreal and Kramme Co. on the south side is sold Monday and L S Bradshaw takes control forming LS Bradshaw and Co. Bradshaw, familiar in the trade, will run a first class drug store in a prime city location. H W Kramme stays on briefly in the store while Bradshaw begins his new venture with strong community backing.
All young people are invited to join the Bible class at the Christian Church every Wednesday evening at eight o clock. Mr Littleton will share valuable information on the Book of Conversions Come let Us reason together.
Miss Maude Whitham and Clode Rogers were quietly married in Rock Island on February 2. Mrs Rogers traveled to Chicago soon after while Mr Rogers moved to Kewanee to establish their home. The couple, popular locally, receive best wishes for a long happy life together.
A Monday evening musicale at the library drew a large crowd. Performers W E Seeboeck pianist and William J Funkey bass gave a two part program with works by Cavallo Chopin and Wagner among others. Hosts Dillon Turney Montgomery and Ellsworth Turney hosted and guests later enjoyed punch wafers and party sticks.
The Franklin school boys beat a Logan school team 15 to 11 at the Rock Island elevator in a hot contest. Lineup includes Pranakein Lani An Jean Black James Cratl Ralph Greet Roscoe Fowler Roy Bevering Vuvene Howard Harold Voorhies Hubert Daggwett Roy Louden Vern Tenry Harold Cassell. A third game likely next Saturday.
A renowned physician on chronic troubles will be in Fairfield on Tuesday February 20 at the Leggett Hotel until 5 o clock p m for one day only. Local residents are advised to attend for consultation and treatment.

Oliver Macy of Perlee raised Indian Red chickens and received an Alaska order for several dozen eggs late last week. The eggs were shipped this morning by Adams Express Company and took twenty eight days to arrive by mail.
Marie Smith hosted a gathering at her home on North Fourth Street on Saturday afternoon. Friends and schoolmates played various games for over an hour and enjoyed dainty refreshments. All attendees reported a very enjoyable time.
Miss Mae Parsons entertained twenty four friends Saturday afternoon at her West Burlington street home for her eleventh birthday. From two to five they played music and games then enjoyed light refreshments. Guests presented Mae with many pretty and useful gifts and each wished her happy returns.

A The runaway horses from Newton Snook’s hay wagon veered into East Burlington street and wrecked the wagon’s right wheels near Mr David’s property. No injuries occurred as bystanders narrowly avoided danger and the horses were later recaptured.
