The forty fourth annual convention of Jefferson County Sunday School Association will be held in this city Friday with a monster parade from square to Chautauqua Park led by a boys band. All county Sunday schools urged to attend with well filled baskets for a basket dinner and family, school, or convention meals. The day features addresses by Rev C L Tennant May or J Fred Clarke Rev F F Fitch Hon W S Neal and Miss Cora Ball with music and a evening session at the Lutheran church.
After years of planning a $4500 granite monument to Soldiers and Sailors who fought to save the Union is proposed for Fairfield Court House square or Fairfield Park. A county tax of one mill would fund it, if approved by voters on November 8. George Strong Post No. 19 G A R has outlined eight by one and a half foot granite obelisk with a soldier statue and panels honoring Navy Infantry Cavalry and Artillery.
The September term of the district court will open in this city on Monday afternoon with Judge C W Vermillion on the bench. The session is expected to be busy with several important cases. On August 23, 1861, a hundred Fairfield youths aged 16 to 20 formed a company for three months but stayed to serve until 1865. William E. Sullivan recalls their steadfast service in Co.
