In Kokomo Indiana on August 13 a man named George R Gearhart was jailed after he allegedly coerced his wife Mrs Gearhart to claim exemption from military service. She feared him and said he threatened to kill her if she did not support the draft-saving claims. An appeal for police protection was made and Gearhart surrendered himself. In Orleans Indiana on August 18 local businessmen announced a Purdue University backed farmers school of instruction for a week in January with Professor Frier leading the course.
