Lewis, former Maryland congressman and top authority on wire communication, is transferred from the United States Tariff Commission to the Post Office Department to assist the postmaster general in controlling and operating telegraph and telephone lines nationwide. Lieutenant Edwin Denby Enlists in Marine Corps

First Lieutenant Edwin Denby resigned from Congress to enlist as a private in the Marine Corps and is now stationed at Paris Island South Carolina. Born February 18 1870 in Evansville Indiana he joined China trade with his father in 1885 and served as a guns battery on the U S S Yosemite during the Spanish American War. He later served in the Michigan House of Representatives in 1823.
