Emperor William denounces Entente aims in a bold proclamation issued from Berlin dated Aug 1 1917. He says three years of hard fighting cemented German strength and vows to continue arming and resisting until a strong free empire is secured. He claims peace proposals were spurned and condemns allied slander of Germany.
Baltimore reports that a man described as a supposed German secret agent has been captured near the Indian Head proving grounds in Maryland. The prisoner is said to have loitered around the facility for several days.
Marion Indiana August 2 John T Pr ton young son of George Preston died after a short illness from infantile paralysis This was the first case reported in the state’s this year portion.
In Austin Texas Speaker Fuller filed impeachment charges against Governor Ferguson as the legislature opened in special session. Four deputy sheriffs and a search of all entering the chamber were instituted to seize guns and weapons.
The Norwegian steamship Davis was torpedoed twenty miles off Holmgrae near Bergen. One passenger and one sailor were killed in the attack. The incident marks a deadly maritime strike during the Aug. 2 reporting.
Lieutenant James R. Dickinson of Jefferson Davis personal guards died in Richmond at age eighty. He accompanied Davis when he left the city during the evacuation of Confederate troops.

Edward Slinkard of Washington files a warrant in Bloomington alleging Bessie Potts obtained 300 dollars under false pretenses after posing as wife of Dr Thomas J Slinkard of Nashville who was killed in an automobile crash. The Potts woman and the doctor’s son reportedly registered as husband and wife at a local hotel shortly before the accident.
