Life of Watson Cordaire Dies in Spokane at 42
Watson Cordaire born Monkton Vermont August 16 1868 died Spokane Washington July 23 aged about 43 after a long career as a traveling salesman. He married Nellie Mitchell of Fairfield in 1295 and leaves two sisters and four brothers in the east. He is remembered as a loyal husband and citizen. Lela Sense of Fairfield helped rescue Martha Maxwell from a cistern accident in Washington City. the girl was saved with Mrs Maxwell and relatives aiding. The incident occurred near East Main Street with a cistern seven feet deep and a three to four foot drop to the surface.

Eight Negroes Disrupt Train in Fairfield Streets
A group of eight Black men boarded Burlington freight No 70 at Ottumwa refusing to pay and threatening to take control of the train. Police Chief Brewer Brigaded by Officer Curray and others arrested them as they arrived in Fairfield and jailed them for the night. Mayor Starr ordered their disposition in the morning.

Mystery surrounds body at coroner’s office visit
In Council Bluffs Iowa July 27 Jack Temple of Atlantic denied the body in the coroner’s quarters was his. Four or five friends watched as the living and dead sparked speculation about identity. Mrs. Oliver Godby of Fairfield said the body resembled Fred Wolf of Monmouth, once a piano player in Fairfield’s Orpheum theater.

Sim Tompkinson Dies in Tile Factory Cog Wheel
Simon Tompkinson a 27 year old Canton resident died at Raney Tile Factory after his chest and arm were crushed by the mixing machine cog wheels. He had replaced a belt and called a fellow worker to resume power, but the machine engaged, trapping him. An inquest found death by crushing in the cog wheel of the dry dirt mixer. Raney says no prior accidents in over twenty years.

Injury to Birmingham Man After Horse Kick
Robert Bailey of three miles east of Birmingham was kicked by a young horse while watering it in his barn yard. He suffered a swollen face a facial laceration and a bruised shoulder. Three stitches were needed for a lip wound. He is brother of George Bailey of this city.

Death by own action at Libertyville Rollin W. Carter
Rollin W. Carter 34 son of T. W. Carter of Libertyville was found dead in an abandoned well on the Oliver Clarridge farm three miles east of town. Coroner ruled suicide after a four six foot descent led to a broken head and replaced boards. Carter, Rock Island agent at Libertyville, had been missing since Sunday. He had been despondent over his condition and discussed methods of death with friends. He leaves a father, two sisters Fred and Mary, a Colorado brother, and a cousin Harley Carter. Funeral arrangements pending arrival of relatives.

Burlington Iowa July 6 Frank Dewein twenty years old is dead and Harold Ashway sixteen cannot recover after Fourth of July accidents. Dewein was injured by an explosion of a can containing twenty five pounds of gunpowder while Ashway was brought in with injuries from a toy cannon.
