Brookshire Texas reports a mob lynched Dave Newton a black man suspected as an accomplice in a white citizen's murder. The incident sparked a race war as white residents drive blacks from the town and threaten further violence.
The steamer City of Seattle, en route from Skagway, ran aground in Johnson Strait during heavy fog. The captain steered slowly and avoided damage. the ship backed off after the fog lifted and arrived in Seattle yesterday.
