Berlin dispatch says the United States notified Japan and China that it will not agree to the Japanese note to China if the open door policy is interfered with. State Department officials declined to comment.
Evelyn Thaw declares Harry Thaw dangerous and urges confinement in a private asylum. She fears he would relapse if freed and could harm others. Jerome, the former district attorney, will testify. deputies seek to compel Evelyn to testify in court. General Reetter testifies Thaw is of sound mind.
London reports the British government desires Orville Wright to command a major Allied air fleet in Europe. The offer reportedly includes 20 Curtis flying boats and other U.S. built aircraft for expeditionary operations in France.
Washington June 28 The gunboat Marietta has been despatched from Key West to Vera Cruz where Carranzistas show disposition to interfere with shipments to the United States. Several vessels have been prevented from sailing by agents at Key West and Vera Cruz amid mounting tensions.
London reports a new German push against Warsaw with a large force gathered in Poland and fresh guns. Troops from Galicia reinforce the attack while Slavic resistance stiffens. Russian readiness is noted as operations continue. Military writers say Austro German forces missed a chance to defeat Russians in Galicia as withdrawals leave losses small.
Rome reports slight gains by Italian forces on the Tyrol front south of Trent and notes a standstill in the Coastland region. The Admiralty reports a British aeroplane raid on Smyrna early today causing many Turkish soldiers to be killed. A party of soldiers sleeping in a barrack were wounded or killed as wreckage from the plane struck the area.
Generals Victoriano Huerta and Orozco with several Mexican figures were seized in El Paso by American authorities on charges of conspiracy to incite a revolution in a friendly country. They were later released on bonds of 15000 and 7500 dollars await federal grand jury action.
London reports an unidentified German submarine wrecked today in the North Sea after an explosion of unknown cause. It is believed the entire crew perished as the craft sank.
