Seattle reports the Wilson Day movement gaining nationwide support with cities preparing honors for the president. Tacoma will observe tomorrow, Seattle holds a Tuesday event with decorations and portraits, and Portland plans a Wednesday celebration.
United States Senator George T. Oliver of Pennsylvania argues for immediate expansion of the army and navy and stronger land and sea defenses. He urges building a large fleet of modern submarines with long cruising radius as the first step to ward off war, saying treaties and peace conventions alone won’t prevent trouble.
Washington June 18. Navy department decision uses wine and water at the Arizona christening to please Arizona residents who protested against wine alone. The superdreadnaught is ready to leave the New York dockyard.
Advices received in Galveston say General Gonzales is near the Mexican capital and expects to occupy the city by tomorrow night. He advances with a large force and anticipates little opposition.

Berlin reports on June 18 that German forces gain and hold positions along the Franco-Belgian front near Arras and Ypres, while advancing toward Warsaw and pressing in Galicia. Austro German troops push Italians south of Trent, with Italians countering toward Trieste as Austrian aviators strike Fano and Pola defenses strengthen.
Storms of unusual violence sweep the Middle West with Central Iowa and Missouri reporting many deaths and heavy property damage. Traffic over wide areas is demoralized as reports arrive from numerous points.
A delegation from the National Women's Trade League met with President Wilson at the White House this afternoon. They presented a resolution denouncing war and urging an embargo on exports of war munitions to European nations. Wilson received them cordially but said the embargo power rests entirely with Congress.
In Chicago the Nationals beat the Brooklyns four to three in a nineteenth inning finish. Pfeffer pitched all nineteen innings for Brooklyn while Humphries left early due to a hand injury and Seable took over for Chicago.
Albany June 18 The Court of Appeals denied Charles Becker appeal for reargument and reaffirmed the death sentence for the murder of Herman Rosenthal. 3 W McCord of Tolovana district is in town on business.
Dawson June 18 The steamer Yukon is set to sail for Fairbanks tomorrow with a full passenger load about 125 tons of freight and much mail delayed at Whitehorse due to low water. The Selkirk cleared Whitehorse with 53 sacks of mail for Dawson 91 sacks for the lower river and passengers including Nome Governor and Mrs Strong.
Eight players refused to wear the Vancouver club uniform as the game was called. Financial issues with management and the suspension of a teammate sparked the walkout. The Northwestern League faces disruption and low attendance, threatening its survival beyond July.
Joshua Kingman has taken over the Northwestern league baseball club franchise in Victoria for two months hoping to sustain the league until mid August. Local interest has waned and most remaining games may be played on the American side of the line. Fans and papers predict the Northwestern league will not survive the season with disbanding set for July 1.
