After many injuries from bicycle riders on sidewalks, Dawson officials pass a law prohibiting sidewalk riding. The ordinance covers First Second Third and Fifth avenues and King and Queen Streets. Police receive strict orders to enforce it with a maximum $100 fine.
General Sir Redvers Buller, commander in chief for part of the Boer War, has died at his London home. Despite postwar criticism of his conduct, his soldierly qualities are praised and he will be buried with full military honors.
London dispatch says Henry Farman, the English aviator who has set recent records in France, has issued a challenge to the Wright brothers for an aerial contest in France with a stake of 5000 dollars.
Louis P. Shackelford and George Shea, Hoggatt delegates, met Secretary Taft in Washington. They said the Hoggatt delegates would be seated and Alaska Republicans, despite factional rifts, back Taft for the nomination. They will go to Chicago to boost Taft and meet delegates.
Washington June 2 Former Senator James K Jones of Arkansas died of heart disease at his home in Washington He was 69 and remained active and hearty until his sudden passing He served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee for a period and led the party during Bryan's 1896 presidential bid.
Clerk Wells reports unprecedented rains and floods in Oklahoma driving his wife from Ardmore and cutting rail service. He notes crops suffer large losses and fears reuniting with family before the Fourth of July. He imagines flying home if air travel were available.
Washington June 2 Senator Jonathan Bourne junior senator from Oregon announces he will tour the world before returning home and will leave immediately not waiting to attend the national republican con vention which ends source text incomplete but implies travels abroad and party matters.
Steamboat traffic to Dawson expected by June 5 as Bennett and Tagish rot at LaBerge. In Whitehorse June 1 reports show steamboat trade booming with near full freight and passenger capacities, Guggenheims shipping vast construction materials for dredges and plants. Ice conditions upstream affect routes, while Tanana bookings persist for passage.
United Press reports two men, Oscar Daniel Elizard San Terre Ro and Archie Martin, drowned after falling from a Guggenheim dredge at Bear Creek during a Saturday accident. Several others barely escaped drowning when swept from a raft by a dredger cable while returning from the Klondike head.
Labor leader Chris Puckett of the Alaska Miners Association and the Western Federation of Miners in Tanana were arrested for assaulting Robert Evans of the Mine Owners Labor Bureau. Seventy men plan to leave for Douglas as Federation threats loom. Mickey Davis of United Mine Workers was jailed for picketing but released after a court found no crime.
Seattle dispatch reports a flotilla of steamers the Victoria Senator and Ohio leaving port with about 2000 passengers primarily in steerage bound for Tanana gold fields. Vessels are freighted to capacity and agents anticipate a record summer rush.

Ground involves upper 360 feet of No 1 below first tier right limit on Dome. Johnson and others hold a 250 foot lay from Juntilla and Burke.
The navy secretary orders all midshipmen at Annapolis to leave immediately for San Francisco. They will be assigned to ships of the fleet by Admiral Sperry and embark on a voyage around the world.
In Chicago Wisconsin on May 31 twenty jurymen argued over the Barney Coffey Sunday saloon closing case in Rye municipal court. A heavy oak chair was demolished and tables dented while several men were slightly injured during the altercation.
Dawson reports Judge Reid and Tanana court officials were hosted by Col onel Henry Roediger and others after their arrival aboard the Tanana. The judge toured creeks by auto party and left on the Prospector for Whitehorse, praising Dawson’s hospitality and planning a return visit with Mrs. Reid in July.
Secretary Taft released a public statement expressing support for endorsing President Roosevelt policies in the coming campaign. The White House meeting of party leaders drafted the platform, with Roosevelt urging explicit endorsements. The platform will be revised multiple times before Chicago convention.

Adam Aren, confined at McNeil Island for a two year term set by Alaska’s Third Division court, escaped yesterday but was recaptured within forty five minutes after the escape was reported. He had attempted several times to gain freedom but all efforts failed and he remained in custody.
