The steamer Hamilton sailed from Dawson last night carrying a long list of passengers to Fairbanks. Included are Miss Wyckoff and Miss Peck among many others with numerous Mrs. and Mr. travelers, a twelve in second class.
Philadelphia fighter Bob Stinger has arrived and plans to stay through the Fourth. He seeks a match with Rafe Turner in Nome and has expressed interest in taking Joe O Connor or any Alaskan middleweight if a $500 gold bet plus gate money is arranged. Stinger notes a recent 10 round draw with Otto Seiloff in Milwaukee and a prior win over Mahoney in Racine. He posted odds in local bets and pledged large bets to show confidence.

Robbers broke into Maddocks and Monkman’s Dome claim No 2 above last night. They removed the first riffle from the hopper and stole its contents during a sluicing run around midnight. United Press reports New York sweltered with its fiercest heat to date. Seven men died from sunstroke before noon and hospitals filled as ambulance care struggled. City business halted as a week of extreme heat continued, hitting tenement districts hardest.
The Umatila arrived at 1 30 this afternoon on her return voyage from Nome. She is the third of the early fleet to reach Seattle. The voyage was fair with a few heavy gales reported.
In St Paul on July 2 the Republican state convention nominated Jacob Jacobson as its regular candidate for governor. Jacobson is a well known St Paul man.
During the Steve Adams trial in Grand Junction Sheriff Fitzpatrick and Otis Hillon clashed as Hillon mocked the sheriff. The sheriff threatened to shoot Hillon, was restrained by court officers, and placed under a heavy bond to keep the peace.

In Cooperstown New York on July 2 Bishop Potter remained alive despite doctors saying recovery is impossible. He stayed conscious through the day and spoke with friends and relatives at his bedside amid his final illness.

Louis McIntyre a prominent Coast builder killed himself in Seattle over an unrequited love affair after moving from Cordova. He had recently arrived in Seattle and became enamored with a local woman. friends say his love was not returned and he suffered from the disappointment. A shot was heard in his rooms and he was found dead by attendants.
