In Paris on December 26 a lone assailant attacked President Fallieres as he walked near the city, beating him severely. The president was taken home in critical condition after warding off the blows. Police suspect a wider royalist conspiracy and have arrested a suspect as part of a larger plot.
Panic spread in Seattle as a false report claimed the steamship Jeanie bound from Valdez with Fairbanks passengers had foundered in a storm. The rumor proved false and the Jeanie later reported from Ketchikan after braving a severe gale.
Mrs C E Carbonneau arrived from Dome City and purchased a $25,000 tract of rich farming land in Yakima. She plans to make North Yakima her home and start a local business. She will dispose of her Dome City Banking and Investment interests shortly.
