Dispatch dated Sept 14 from Republican Army before Toulon reports no hostilities since Sept 7. Heavy artillery and provisions arrived and preparations to defend or burn the city. The Municipal Officers are reportedly arrested as security measures.
The report details seized possessions from an emigrant’s house, praise for eight Marseilles patriots executed by the Revolutionary Tribunal, a district administrators’ defense of people’s safety, and dispatches on Republican army progress from Nantes to Lege. It also outlines a new equinox-based calendar with two months of ten days and epavomenes.
The article reports the Popular Society of Befer urging the Convention to form a four column Revolutionary Army with rival Tribunals and guillotines marching toward the center of the Republic to purge aristocrats. From the Rhine, Sept 24, reports of Duke Brunswick penetrating Bitche gates are doubtful. Official particulars of the Sept 14 battle show French efforts under General Moreau attacking near Pirmasens and suffering total defeat with two thousand killed or wounded, fifteen hundred prisoners, and fifteen cannon lost. Other actions at Liens Neunkirchen and Neder Auerbach rendered heavy losses to the French as the Heicht and Hora bach posts were driven from their positions.
Report from the Castle of Zuxavbourg details captured items including four carriages, two gold chests, gold service of 20 covers, a vast jewel cache, and 18 million in intrinsic value.
